Department: 115101 - University Field Laboratories Location: Raleigh, NC Essential Job Duties: The Project and Field Lab Coordinator position will supervise operations for current work and lead strategic planning and implementation of future development of Lake Wheeler Field Lab. The position will work in concert with the Assistant Director of NCARS, Facilities Project Managers, and CALS Facilities Coordinator (Associate Dean for Administration). The position will provide input to the Facilities master plan concerning efficient use of resources for conducting research and to enhance research capabilities at Lake Wheeler Lab. Once all components are in place, the position will conduct comprehensive evaluation and maintenance procedures to ensure that the Lake Wheeler Road Field Laboratory is optimized for the research, extension, and teaching needs of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). The position will coordinate with departmental units located on the site to achieve the mission of CALS research, teaching and extension. The Project and Field Lab Coordinator is expected to provide leadership in upgrading and modernization of Lake Wheeler Road Field Laboratory into the Farm of the Future to support evolving faculty research, teaching and extension activities, including the interface between these activities and the public. The position will research, develop, and direct innovative approaches to unique work situations in the area of animal and plant research. The position will coordinate the management and design implementation of new programs administered by Lake Wheeler staff, determining teams and units for optimal research outcomes. The position will assist with research project planning and assess outcomes with Principal Investigator (PI), as well as managing current field and operational conditions. The position is expected to determine multiple and complex long-range plans and schedules within established research and teaching objectives. This includes arranging and assigning work for multiple research projects of varying impact and importance. Short and long-range goals of various PI's, extension goals, and general College research priorities must be considered at all times. It is the responsibility of this position to manage and maintain the budget and expenditures of Lake Wheeler field lab to support all research, extension and teaching programs, and maintain field lab operations. Other Work/Responsibilities:
Minimum Experience/Education: Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or an undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
