Traffic Engineer

Under general supervision, performs professional engineering work in reviewing and evaluating traffic engineering and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects, development proposals, traffic control, and planning studies for the City of Yuma’s Engineering Division; designs and develops traffic engineering projects; manages, evaluates and operates the City’s traffic signal system; and manages the traffic engineering work group.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; AND five years’ experience, including supervisory experience, managing traffic engineering and intelligent transportation system projects; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Arizona State Driver’s License is required. Registration as a Professional Engineer by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration is required; Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer® (PTOE) by the Transportation Professional Certification Board is preferred; certification(s) from the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) are desired; additional technical training and certifications may be required.
Work is performed in a standard office environment, and in the field at traffic engineering project work sites. May occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment.
