The mission of the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation is to enhance quality of life by facilitating the mobility of people and goods safely and efficiently. This mission is accomplished by planning, constructing, operating, and maintaining the aviation, transit and surface transportation systems.
 
The Department of Transportation consists of three groups: Intermodal Operations, Capital Program Delivery and Traffic Engineering, Operations and Maintenance. The Department maintains an infrastructure system that includes more than 2,600 miles of road, over 730 signalized intersections, thousands of miles of traffic striping, the Gwinnett County Transit System and one of the three busiest airports in Georgia. The Department performs this mission with 172 approved full-time positions and a 2021 adopted operating budget of $48.7 million in multiple funds.
 
The Department is actively recruiting a Division Director to oversee the Preconstruction Division of Capital Program Delivery, which oversees the Capital Road Building Program for Gwinnett County to include projects funded by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The Program Delivery section currently oversees the 2017, 2014 and 2009 SPLOST programs with a total estimated budget of $1.35 billion. Program Delivery utilizes private sector contractors / consultants as needed to expedite the design, land acquisition and construction of road and bridge improvement projects.
 
This position is a salary grade 203.

Training and Experience (positions in this class require):

  • Bachelor's Degree in a closely related field, such as Public Administration, Business Management, Civil Engineering (Transportation) or Construction Management. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment, including two years’ experience as a manager; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above;
  • Valid Driver's License;
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
