This position is within Procurement and Payment Services (PPS) and will report directly to the Executive Director. The Business Diversity Manager will play a key role in the definition, implementation and management of the business diversity strategy at Northwestern. S/he must be able to effectively interact with procurement administrators in Procurement and Payment Services, key personnel in schools/departments across the University, various local and national supplier diversity organizations, and the vendor community. The goal is to assure that Northwestern University is meeting its responsibilities to provide increased opportunities for the diverse vendor community (minority owned, woman owned, Evanston, Chicago, small, veteran owned, etc.) to do business with Northwestern.
Business diversity outreach events:
Coordinate annual Northwestern specific business diversity event
Represent Northwestern at various other business diversity events such as CMSDC, WBDC, Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Chicago United, CASE, Chicago Urban League, NAEP, and those hosted by other Universities.
Establish and manage diverse vendor pre-screening process. Develop a list of pre-screened vendors to be used as follows:
By procurement administrators in PPS for inclusion in future bid opportunities.
For reference by departments and schools via publication on the Northwestern website
By Facilities Management on construction bids and for subcontracting opportunities on larger construction projects
For vendor inclusion in the Wildcard Advantage Program (student and staff discount program) when appropriate.
By Northwestern research community for use on small business subcontracting plans for grant proposals.
The goal is to establish and develop meaningful partnerships and relationships with the diverse vendor community.
Act as liaison and advocate for diverse vendors with Northwestern decision makers:
Facilitate making connections between quality diverse vendors and department/school decision makers when appropriate.
Facilitate the introduction of quality diverse vendors to Procurement Administrators in Procurement and Payment Services.
Facilitate making connections with Facilities Management and general contractors
Coordinate the compilation of all business diversity spend reports, including the following:
Tier 1 – direct spend
Tier 2 – subcontracted spend on construction projects
Tier 3 – spend with diverse vendors through other prime vendors (OfficeMax, Compass Group, etc.)
Other Administration duties:
Assist with business diversity content for PRS newsletter
Assist with business diversity content for website.
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required.
Five or more years of purchasing experience preferably in higher education, or equivalent experience in a related service industry.
Experience evaluating vendors via a formal process such as Request for Information (RFI)
Experience in advocacy for and marketing of pre-screened vendors within an organization; experience developing and conducting training sessions

Exhibit continual improvement as a procurement professional by attending relevant training courses and seminars/conferences.
