Responsible for facilitating and coordinating all design and construction phases of multiple University construction projects. Works closely with the Facilities Planning and Management Department and other campus departments. Responsible for the day to day management of consultants (architects, construction firms and other consultants and vendors) and cost and schedule controls of projects.
•Project Management as assigned •Written and verbal communications, contracting, scheduling, coordination of work, e-Builder mgt., archiving, SMU inter-departmental coordination •Project construction logistics and planning •Oversight of 3rd party Architects, Engineers, contractors and consultants •Accountable for schedule, budget & quality goals of projects •Oversee and advise partners of building standards and requirements •Key leader to facility user groups •Provide support materials for AVP use in Oversight Committee Meetings and BOT meetings
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree is required for this role, preferably in design, construction project management, architecture, construction technology, engineering, facilities management or facilities planning. A Master's degree is preferred.
A minimum of 3 years' experience in design and/or construction project management required. Experience with traditional project delivery methods is strongly preferred. Candidate must possess strong project management, problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to manage projects and tasks. Experience solving design and construction issues on major projects of significant scope and complexity is desirable. Professional registration in area related to the design and/or construction industry is desirable. LEED AP accreditation is preferred, but not required. Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential is preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Professional registration, LEED AP, CCM preferred.
Must have experience solving design and construction issues on major projects of significant scope and complexity. This position requires excellent verbal and communication and interpersonal skills; must be a team player; well-developed attention to details and accuracy; strong problem-solving abilities; customer service oriented; multi-tasking abilities; time management skills; and must be able to lead diverse groups of individuals to meet project goals and objectives.
A strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) is required. Knowledge of and/or experience with AutoCAD and MS Projects is desirable.
