This position is an entry-level construction project manager position which would initially consist of assisting staff project managers, agency executive project managers, Construction Project Operations Manager and the Division Director by performing various assigned tasks to ensure multiple projects are completing all of the required planning, paperwork, licensure etc. (for each of the project phases) at any one time. The individual in this position would participate in training programs and receive training in management tools, standards, policies, and procedures for working in both Construction Project Management, but also State Government.
For training and advancement purposes, the supervisor of this position may assign larger projects for the incumbent to manage depending upon the individual's comprehension of, and abilities in, managing smaller projects first. Large project assignments would entail assisting a more experienced project manager. The training and subsequent responsibilities and tasks will also consist of a graduation from assisting more experienced project managers to independently managing small scale projects.
The duties of this position involve assisting in the delivery of the projects, ensuring compliance with state contract requirements, state and division policies, and facilitating the needs of the customer agency. As the individual progresses in abilities, the individual will graduate to independently managing small scale projects or larger projects as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis on Construction or Project Management or a related field
Two (2) years of professional experience as a construction manager, architect, engineer, general contractor, or comparable Construction Project Management experience with 1 year being responsible and in charge of running a project
Excellent Communication Skills (both written and oral)
Analytical skills sufficient to understand various construction and architectural documents
Organization skills sufficient to manage multiple tasks to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and tasks are prioritized appropriately.
Ability to ask questions and research answers whenever necessary to understand the application of/derivation from normal process and procedure.
Ability to carry out duties using Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Working knowledge of project management and scheduling software such as MS Project.
Valid Minnesota Class D Driver License
Applicant must be able to physically inspect construction projects and work sites, while traversing dug-up terrain, climbing ladders and temporary stairs, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
Previous Construction Project Management experience in Owners Project Representative organization (management of projects for private or public owner).
Formal Project Management Training (Certificate) from PSMJ Resources, Inc. or Project Management Institute (PMI).
Previous experience managing projects using a project management software such as MS Project with Project Web Application (PWA-MSProject)
