The Department of General Services (DGS) Capital Construction Division seeks candidates for a Project Manager for the Schools Program who will be working primarily on the DCPS School Modernization Portfolio but may be expected to support the entire Schools Program.
The Capital Construction Division implements and oversees the Capital Improvement Program for agencies within the District of Columbia and executes the capital budget program, consisting of the rehabilitation of existing real property facilities and construction of new facilities supporting the District.
The Project Manager has a particular emphasis placed on projects that are in the design phase. The incumbent shall manage school modernization projects through the permitting and regulatory process, value engineering, budgeting, scheduling, drawing review, team management, and risk assessment before construction.
The incumbent is responsible for large and complex project assignments, supports the real estate portfolio program manager, and is responsible for the entire lifecycle of the assigned capital projects. It is also expected that a successful project manager provides expert-level planning, oversight, analysis, communication, technical assistance, and guidance for major actions.
The incumbent plans, prepares, directs, and oversees the design and construction of various projects for the District of Columbia with responsibility for the projects from inception to completion and project assessment, evaluation, and follow-up activities. Solicits approval on scope, budget, and schedule, ensuring accomplishment of all activities related to the competitive and open-end contract. Establishes budgets for projects and is responsible for securing the funding data once projects have been fully approved. Facilitates meetings to convey technical ideas to a broad spectrum of stakeholders and obtain intended outcomes.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.
Seven (7) years of experience in a construction project management position, preferred. Registered Architect is highly preferred. PMP, Professional Engineer, and/or other approved certifications are preferred.
