SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Field Construction Manager with background in field inspections and quality assurance of construction projects. As the member of our Design and Construction Services team, you will assist in effectively managing the assigned subcontracts in accordance with SLAC Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) requirements, Procurement requirements, and customer needs while balancing and managing ambiguous priorities. Additional responsibilities include constructability, cost and schedule review, frequent and clear communications and advice on contract schedules, cost containment, and reports on subcontractor performance. The successful candidate will assist Projects in monthly financial progress accruals, and earned value performance reporting. The Field Construction Manager is well versed in construction contracts management and advises on appropriate responses to subcontractors as an advocate for the University. The Field Construction Manager advises on efficient alternative courses of action and contractual conflict resolution. Goals include project safety, cost, and schedule performance, developing excellent customer relations with stakeholders and excellent business relations with subcontractors.
This position is an employee of Stanford University, providing support to the Department of Energy (DOE) contract at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This position requires the highest personal and professional commitment to safe and efficient management of filed construction services. Ownership, diligence, persistence, and integrity are required This position reports to the Construction Management Group within the Facilities and Operations (F&O) Design and Construction Services (DCS) team. Position is expected interface with various Project Managers.
Note: SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park; CA. Due to COVID-19-related curtailment of on-site activities, the job duties for this position may be required to be performed from home until full site access is restored.
Your responsibilities will include:
Perform field inspections and quality assurance of construction projects.
Provide daily construction reports and maintain up-to-date files of all construction documents.
Attend and participate in project meetings to keep Project Manager apprised of project progress, status, quality and schedule.
Identify and evaluate potential new observed hazards and implement controls as project's scope of work changes; ensure work is authorized and released in accordance with approved guidelines and processes prior to commencing work activity.
Document and report all construction deficiencies to Project Manager.
Other duties may also be assigned.

To be successful in this position, you will bring
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field with minimum five years’ experience in construction superintendence or management, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience in construction and construction management.
Experience planning, directing, and coordinating activity on construction sites.
Demonstrated excellent planning, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend construction documents, including plans, specifications, contracts, regulatory requirements, Request for Information (RFI), Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules etc.
Working knowledge of testing, special inspection, permitting, Request for Information (RFI), submittals, change order, and scheduling policies and procedures associated with construction contracts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
Demonstrated competency in computer operation including Primavera Construction Manager and P6, Microsoft Office suites including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project Schedule, Outlook, and SharePoint.
Certifications and Licenses:
Valid California non-commercial Class driver’s license.
