Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative has a job opening for a Manager of Safety and Purchasing in our Headquarters office, Texarkana, Arkansas.
The ideal candidate will have experience evaluating, planning and implementing safety in the workplace with at least 10 years’ engineering or operations experience in the electric utility industry. A college degree, Certified Loss Prevention Certificate (CLPC) and OSHA Safety Certificate are preferred but not required. Evaluate, plan and implement safety in the workplace.
Inspect workplaces and worksites both on scheduled and surprise basis to identify and document violations of Federal, State and Local safety laws.
Assists in identifying dangers for the cooperative and also develop plans to correct problems.
Responsible for identifying potential workplace hazards that could cause injury, sickness or damage to property.
Inspect equipment, processes, materials and facilities.
Evaluate effectiveness of current safety programs and compliance with regulations.
Investigate workplace accidents and their causes.
Assist in the plan, design, and implement safety plans and procedures: safety training programs, emergency response plans, security procedures, and programs for handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
Assist in design of workspaces and layout facilities to meet safety objections and comply with regulations.
Oversee other employees and management on safety through hazard recognition, job specific training and complying with safety programs and procedures.
Will be member of Safety Coordinator group.
Assists in implementing RESAP.
Receives and issues material; prepares receiving reports and verifies material received matches material ordered on purchase orders.
Prepares material charge and credit tickets; arranges and maintains material and equipment in the warehouse and storage yard in orderly manner and in accordance with recognized safety rules, and in a manner so each item is readily accessible and usable; and makes periodic inventory counts as directed.
Assists the Manager of Operations in the timely purchase of material, work equipment and tools.
Assists in the repair, maintenance, and servicing of transportation equipment, heavy work equipment, and safety equipment.
Reads and understands staking sheets, material sheets, and engineer’s specifications.
Delivers material such as line hardware, transformers, oil circuit reclosers, and other material and equipment items to job site as directed.
Maintains warehouse and storage yard inventory items.
Issues material for various construction jobs and receives, counts, and restocks retirement material.
Assists Manager of Operations in maintenance and groundskeeping functions at Headquarters facilities.
Assists in coordinating and setting up facilities for Annual Meeting of the Members.
Performs other assignments as directed and required; and is subject to emergency call-out.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Valid driver’s license required.
Ability to possess knowledge of RUS/REA specifications and standards.
Ability to possess knowledge of general PCB rules and regulations regarding the storage of PCB and PCB contaminated transformers, regulators, etc.
Ability to possess knowledge of general OSHA rules, and regulations involving safety and good housekeeping practices.
Ability to work with district operations personnel in disbursing and loading equipment for shipment to districts.
Ability to take and pass applicable Federal Department of Transportation examination and other requirements to obtain Class A Driver’s License.
Ability to safely operate forklift.
Ability to work with operations Manager of Operations in maintaining and operating headquarters warehouse facilities and purchasing activities.
Ability to work with laborer in groundskeeping activities and other work.
Ability to work with district managers and Manager of Operations in issuing and receiving warehouse material relating to construction jobs, line maintenance and line outages.
Ability to work with Manager of Operations, systems operations tech., district managers, and others.
Ability to work with material delivery persons and freight truck drivers in shipping and receiving various warehouse inventory items.
Ability to work with material vendors to assist Manager of Operations in purchasing activities as required.
Ability to work with district managers and other district operations personnel in shipping and receiving various equipment to districts.
Ability to work with other operations and general office personnel as directed and required.
Ability to work with system operations personnel in coordinating the timely restoration of electrical service during line outages.
Ability to work with laborer in coordinating headquarters yard work, warehouse and storage yard cleanup, etc.
Ability to work with the Cooperative staff and employees in implementing RESAP.
Supervise and assist warehouse laborers in the performance of their assigned duties.
High school diploma or equivalent required
College degree is preferred
Valid driver’s license required
