Description of Work:
The Facilities Manager has responsibility for the facilities and infrastructure of the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center (ENREEC). The $25 million facility near Mead, NE encompasses 9,600 acres of crop land, pasture, and livestock operations and more than 20 miles of roads. The facility operates its own municipal water system and onsite wastewater treatment facility. The center also oversees the following: Barta Brothers Ranch, a 6,000 acre ranch near Rose, NE; Haskell Ag Lab, a 480 acre farm near Concord, NE; and South Central Ag Lab, a 640 acre farm near Clay Center, NE.
This position is responsible for design, construction, renovation, and maintenance for all buildings, structures, utility services, landscaping, and security operations on site. This position oversees the trades team including a supervisor and a variety of skilled tradespeople. Position will coordinate with the management team at ENREEC, IANR Facilities Director, UNL Facilities management, and other stakeholders. Prepares and executes contracts for construction projects or maintenance. Implements and monitors risk management strategies. Responsible for the day-to-day management of these functions, consulting with ENREEC Director on issues with long-term financial impact or considerable impact to research being conducted. Serve as the liaison to the State of Nebraska 309 Task Force in the absence of the IANR Facilities Director.
Due to the nature of the facilities, position must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements. Manager must have or obtain a license and/or certification to be a Class IV Municipal Water System Operator and Wastewater Treatment Manager within 12 months of hire. This position is considered essential personnel for university functioning and may have responsibilities that occur outside normal working hours. Position is located near Mead, NE and will travel within the state to other locations regularly (5-8 times per year) as needed.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in agricultural, civil, or structural engineering, construction management, or closely related field. Five years of demonstrated experience managing facilities and supervising/coordinating multiple work teams to solve problems and accomplish complex tasks within strict time frames and budget requirements. Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry trades is necessary. Ability to design, layout, and oversee construction projects required. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with computer applications including computerized drafting applications, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
