We are proud to share our new NCAT Driver Trainee Program at the Test Track in Opelika! Work with us and get your Commercial Driver's License!
The National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) Test Track is a national research proving ground for asphalt pavements. Highway agencies and industry sponsors fund research on the 1.7-mile oval in 200-foot test sections. This real-world laboratory allows for cutting-edge experimentation while avoiding the risk of failure on actual roadways.
The Truck Driver Trainee gets paid for attending Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training courses through an agreement with Southern Union State Community College's (SUSCC) CDL program. The first six weeks of the program include attending the Southern Union courses, riding, and learning with a certified NCAT Driver. Following the successful completion of an evaluation period following the awarding of the CDL, Driver Trainees are eligible for a promotion to a Driver position.
The trainee must pass the CDL within 8 weeks after completing the classroom portion and the written exam.
If the Trainee does not obtain their CDL after 4 months from the time the program started, they will separate from employment with Auburn University.
Each external training program will have its own deadlines that they would either remove a student or reschedule them to a later class in extreme cases.
Once the trainee receives the CDL, there will be a 2-week transition to direct hire to an NCAT Driver position.
This is a limited-term appointment. Continuation of employment will be contingent upon the availability of funding.
This is a pool posting – applications will be considered active for a period of six months from the posting date.
