The Reserve at Moonlight Basin is now accepting applications for summer interns for our 2023 season. Moonlight Basin is an 18 private golf course located at 7000 feet of elevation in Big Sky, MT. Moonlight Basin was rated #2 best new private course by Golf Digest in 2016, and is currently ranked #2 course in Montana.
Our internship program will consider the student's goals and involve them in several aspects of golf course management with a strong emphasis on where the student feels he/she needs improvement. Mowing, fertilizer and pesticide applications, course setup, water management, equipment maintenance & mower set up, and budgeting are all topics which will be covered during the summer season.

An intern, under the direction of the assistant superintendents, operates all types of equipment, and does related work as needed for the golf course maintenance department. Interns will be exposed to and will play an important role in our daily maintenance operation. Our internship program will consider the student’s goals and involve them in several aspects of golf course management.
Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year degree plan or turf certificate program that strives toward providing its students with the tool set necessary to succeed in turf grass management upon graduation.
Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
Working knowledge of operating hand and power tools and equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to take notes and ask questions.
Knowledge of methods and materials used in golf course grounds maintenance work.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operates various mowers, string trimmers, aerifiers, and other outdoor power equipment. Operates all equipment authorized by supervisor when needed.
Utilizes loaders and tractors to haul or remove material directed by supervisor.
Participates in daily course set up.
Assists in project work such as drainage, sod laying, preparing base soil, and any other projects that may arise throughout the season.
Participates in chemical and fertilizer applications under the supervision of the management team.
Calibration of fertilizer and pesticides, along with recordkeeping of applications.
Assists in irrigation repair and maintenance.
Training and supervising staff with equipment use.
Assists with project management and works on special projects.
Communicates problems with playing conditions to supervisors immediately.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintains effective communication and cooperation with all other departments.
Maintains positive interactions with club members and guests, providing a high level of customer service.
Performs any and all duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or other members of the senior management team, as deemed appropriate.
