Assistant Engineer/Associate Engineer – 3 Positions Available
The Department will be creating one eligibility list which may be used to fill three vacancies at the Assistant Engineer or Associate Engineer level. Placement will be made dependent upon the qualifications of the candidates and the level of position that is available at that time. Candidates will be notified of the level of position available prior to references being checked.

The Public Works Departments Operations & Maintenance, Engineering Services and Traffic Engineering Divisions are currently looking for skilled individuals and encourage all Engineers with relevant professional experience to apply!
The Operation & Maintenance Division is comprised of Capital Maintenance and Operations. These two sections are responsible for the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of roadways, sidewalks, curb-ramps, traffic signals, streetlights, signs & markings, landscaping, and drainage.
The Engineering Services Division is comprised of the Construction Management, Public Works Permits, and Drainage Engineering sections. The Drainage Engineering section is responsible for preserving and improving water quality in our natural resources represented by creeks, channels, and streams throughout the City as well as managing the floodplain and reducing the risk of flooding in the City.
The Traffic Engineering Division is responsible for engineering functions in Public Works associated with traffic engineering. This includes transportation planning, design, and operations, traffic controls, analysis of collisions or traffic problems, speed control measures, management of the Traffic Operations Center, and coordinating with other City departments, consultants and outside agencies.
The Department is seeking candidates with experience in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of various public infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of applicable laws, permits, engineering principles and standards, and the ability to make alterations during all phases of design and construction. Experience with the review of public improvement plans and the associated required studies is desirable. It is also desirable for candidates to have experience delivering engineering services to a Public Works agency as either a Public Works employee or a consultant. These positions require significant collaboration, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and initiative. To be successful in this position, strong judgement and prioritization skills are essential.
