Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Project Engineer for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Under the guidance of the Assistant Director, QA/QC & Commissioning, the Project Engineer will oversee the design and construction of Capital projects, major interior renovations, additions, new building construction, major equipment replacement and installation within Project Services.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Review project documents, conducts field inspections and verifies in place construction activity and provides technical inspections for Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire-Protection, Site Work & Site Utility construction.
Procure and manage commissioning services and conduct inspections required for in-house new building commissioning and manage projects.
Review project documents for constructability & compliance with Rutgers design standards & codes and LEED ratings under the supervision of the Assistant Director of QA/QC & Commissioning.
Monitor specific discipline (ie., site & site utilities, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, building envelope, civil, roofing etc..) and ensure the construction is in compliance with the construction documents during the construction process. Provide reporting of the construction process, workmanship and any defects observed. Work with the code official to ensure contractor complies with codes.
Review change orders, submittals and construction documents, monitor and ensure contractor provides appropriate construction documentation in the University's construction management system.
Coordinate commissioning and testing activities and manage external commissioning agents or provide commissioning services as required. Provide document reporting of all commissioning activities. Ensure all defects are corrected.
Ensure the closeout and documentation process is completed. This includes but is not limited to scheduling equipment training, O&M manual documentation. Ensure that the proper asset management information is provide to Facilities.
Bid and manage projects such as site utilities and work as required to ensure that the project is successfully completed. Ensure GIS mapping of site utilities is up-to-date and monitor activities as required. Assist and work with Project Management staff as required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, construction technology or related field.
A minimum of seven years experience in the construction industry in a supervisory field role.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Extensive walking all year round on the construction site in order to complete daily inspections. Lifting and walking is required. Activities related to working on a construction site. Drivers license is required.
