This position helps implement PMI’s legislative and regulatory goals at the state level. You will have overall responsibility for working with PMI members to establish positions on state legislation and regulations that impact the plumbing manufacturing industry while achieving balanced and favorable outcomes. You will also serve as a technical resource for PMI members on state regulatory issues.
As a member of the PMI team, you will actively participate and collaborate with manufacturing members, advocacy teams, and PMI staff across all departments to establish both short and long term goals and objectives to support the Association's priorities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Track and monitor all state bills, conduct analysis, and determine impact on the Association members
Develop positions on bills based on member feedback and work with state legislators, regulators and government staff to achieve favorable outcomes
Report the progress of state bills to membership during the monthly Advocacy/Government Affairs teleconferences or as needed
Develop the necessary level of knowledge of plumbing product manufacturing, plumbing codes, standards, water efficiency, and business regulations to best serve the Association
Enhance PMI’s position as the go to resource for accurate, science-based information on plumbing fixture and fittings best practices, manufacturing leadership, regulatory requirements, codes and standards for members and other organizations
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
You have at least 3 years’ experience on state legislative and/or state regulatory issues or activities preferably on behalf of a trade association. A degree in political science, public policy or government is preferred. Knowledge of engineering, industrial manufacturing, plumbing products, and/or construction management a plus.
PMI operates as a distributed team which requires a self-directed, highly motivated individual with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. An inner drive to achieve assigned goals and desired outcomes on a timely, proactive basis is essential.
Experience working with legislators, advocacy consultants, and others with a high level of diplomacy and effectiveness
A highly effective communicator, with exceptional oral and written skills
A willingness to travel to address legislators and/or staff on critical issues
A high-level of self-initiative that gets the job done unsupervised
Demonstrated ability to execute against deadlines, manage multiple projects, set priorities, and monitor and control expenditures
Strong computer skills and working knowledge of data management systems. Ability to learn about and utilize digital communication and remote working tools
Ability to develop into a proactive knowledge expert on our portfolio of state legislative and policy issues and drive advocacy work on those issues forward in coordination with PMI staff and members.
