Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.
JOB PURPOSE:
As part of the Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects division and under the direction of the Director, Maintenance Operations, manage facilities operations and maintenance staff consisting of the Carpentry/Cabinetry Shop and Locksmith Shop which covers both mechanical locks and electronic access systems and contracted work related to these trades. Staff supervised includes a manager, lead staff, and trades technicians.
Work directed will include:
*Carpentry: repair, restoration, fabrication/replication of building components to match existing, casework for specific operational needs, doors, windows, screens, building components including stairs, railings, trim, siding and similar building elements as well as structural repairs to buildings.
*Locksmith: all facets of mechanical locks, master keying systems, door hardware, doors, related components as well as electronic access systems, hardware, systems operation, and troubleshooting.
*Oversight of training for staff, identifying training, certifications desired, working with department training coordinator to schedule and perform training sessions on relevant topics.
*Oversight of new construction standards related to carpentry and locksmith trades, review/comment on new construction/renovation project submittals, recommendations for renovation project scope development based on observed durability/failure of building systems and products in existing facilities.
*Oversight and management of assigned staff, including other supervisors/managers, engaged in facilities management or building/equipment maintenance. Participate in department/unit strategic management.
*Oversight of daily operations and management of assigned facilities and programs, including scheduling and assigning work to staff and coordinating with staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors; respond to and coordinate emergency response related to supervised trades, coaching lower-level managerial staff; overseeing staffing and performance evaluations of assigned staff; contributing to department or division staffing needs forecast.
*Clarify and resolve problems spanning multiple areas or technical fields and/or oversee or develop programs within assigned facilities.
*Manage and/or develop budget for area of responsibility, including staffing, maintenance, contracts, etc.
*Coordinate contracted services work as applicable.
*Participate in department/unit strategic management, including making recommendations involving short-term planning for facility-type projects and for longer-range programs/projects; providing input into long-range financial, budgeting, and programmatic planning and development; providing input into the development of policies and procedures; interpret and manage policies and procedures for assigned area.
*Oversee and/or monitor project activities; ensure integration with larger unit goals; coordinate with staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience. Five or more years of combined relevant trades and managerial experience in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, residential & dining facilities, auditoriums, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
*Knowledge of the codes, tools, practices, technologies of the trades supervised including an understanding of workmanship and work quality expectations within these trades.
*Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.
*Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
*Demonstrated experience managing service contracts.
*Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets.
*Demonstrated experience planning, developing, and implementing programs.
*Ability to interpret planning specifications, documents, working drawings, and related reports.
*Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
*Demonstrated experience with increasing responsibilities in management positions in the building trades i.e., Project Superintendent, General Contractor, Department Manager.
*Experience with estimating multi discipline work i.e. tenant improvement projects, involving Carpentry - general carpentry and fine woodworking; Locksmithing - including mechanical keying systems and electronic access systems.
*Full understanding of all aspects of carpentry including means, methods, materials, tools, equipment, codes, industry practices, work quality standards.
*Full understanding of door hardware, mechanical locks, master keying systems, and electronic access control systems including product selection, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair.
*Experience in successfully tracking financials at the project and department level.
*Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, strong business decorum, relationship building & experience with motivating & building teams.
*Previous experience managing workers represented by a collective bargaining agreement.
*Ability to work with other Maintenance Operations Assistant Directors and Planner-Scheduler partners to adjust staffing & resources to meet a dynamic workload.
The work performed by this position will be on-site at the Stanford University Campus.

The expected pay range for this position is $145k to $155k per annum( $69.71-$74.52 / hour).
