Reporting directly to the Parks and Recreation Division Director, with 90 employees, the Parks Superintendent for the Parks Maintenance Group plans and directs the activities and operations of the Division including repair, renovation, minor construction, tree trimming, and sign shop projects for the Division's parks, landscaped areas, natural area sites, recreational areas, and buildings. The Parks Superintendent is responsible for developing strategies, goals and objectives to improve services; will participate as a member of the Division's Leadership Team; coordinates with key staff in the capital development, planning, and design of new parks and facilities; and will coordinate Division projects with other County agencies and outside entities, such as architects, engineers, local building departments, and contractors. This position also plays a key role in during emergency operations related to strategic support following natural disasters and other emergency deployments. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who has the ability to manage day-to-day operations of the Division while looking to the future needs of the Division.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in parks and recreation management, business administration, public administration, environmental sciences, engineering or closely related field. (One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
Requires seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in park management, programming and administrative work or closely related experience including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.
Preferences:
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in parks and recreation management, business administration, public administration, environmental sciences, engineering or closely related field.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional(CPRP)/Executive
Professional Engineer or Architect
General Contractor's License
Construction management and facilities maintenance experience
Project tracking experience (e.g. MicroSoft Project)
Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) experience (e.g. Facility Focus; AIM)
Capital Program Budget experience
Ability to read, write and speak foreign language (Spanish, French/Creole)
